Playing Corpse Party on a PC

This version of Corpse Party is the 2010 release for the PSP called Corpse Party: Blood Covered...Repeated Fear. If you have a PSP, then go get it off the PlayStation Network, lucky person! For the rest of us, we are using a PSP emulator on a PC called PPSSPP to play the game. It should work on Windows 7 for sure, but I am using Windows 8.1. I don't know about any earlier versions. I am basically following the instructions from this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMqUfgKYbU0), but since they are not all in one place after the recent description update, I have written it out. It certainly helps being a computer scientist. If you prefer watching the video, go ahead, but these instructions are here to clarify.

- Download the PPSSPP emulator zip folder: http://www.ppsspp.org/downloads.html- While you are at the PPSSPP emulator download page, it should specify needing a Visual C++ (VC) runtime. Follow the appropriate link and install. This is needed for PPSSPP to run. For version 0.9.8, I had to install VC 2013, which can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 If you're computer is 64-bit addressed, select the 64-bit version. Otherwise, stick with 32-bit (x86). How to check this (if you don't already know) varies from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Windows 7: Click the start menu, right click Computer, click Properties. It appears under 'System type.'Windows 8: Right-click the bottom left corner of the screen and click System. It appears under 'System type.'

- Download the Corpse Party image (ISO). (Link found in video description).

- In the ppsspp folder, create a new folder that will hold the ISO game files. I called it 'umdimages.'

- Cut and paste the Corpse Party ISO file into this folder.

- Now, run the emulator. The file you use depends on which version of the VC runtime you installed. If you installed 64-bit, double click 'PPSSPPWindows64.exe,' otherwise, start PPSSPPWindows.exe.'

- In the emulator, click Load, and select the Corpse Party ISO.

- If you have black screen problems or flickering, try going to Game Settings in the window menu bar and under Rendering Mode, switching to Non-Buffered Rendering.

- You should be good to go from here. Remember that you are emulating a PSP, so the PSP buttons have a certain mapping to the keyboard. You have to figure out which keys are mapped to which PSP buttons. This can be found under Game Settings->Control Mapping... You can also map these actions to buttons on a Xbox Gamepad controller. Just plug it in, and it should work automatically.

- If you can get your hands on a Higurashi Daybreak ISO file, you can also use the same method to play it. Just be prepared for Japanese.
