This issue may arise if there is a hardware issue with your computer’s USB port, a driver problem.

Follow the steps given below:

  1. Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel

  2. Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

  3. Click on View all on the left navigation pane.

  4. Click on Hardware and devices.

  5. Click on Advanced on the Hardware and devicesdialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

  6. Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Hardware and devicestroubleshooter.

Method 2:

If the issue does not get resolved by the above method, you may try to uninstall and reinstall the USB driver on the computer. Follow the steps:

a) Press Windows + X key on the keyboard and select Device Manager.
b) Locate the USB driver.
c) Right click on the USB driver icon and select
Uninstall.
d) Restart the computer. After restarting the computer, USB driver will automatically be installed.
e) Connect the external hard drive through the USB and check if it responds.
